Chinese Herbal medicine
What is Chinese Herbal Medicine?
Chines Herbal Medicine has always been one of the most important aspects of Oriental Medicine that consists of substances derived from plant or mineral sources. Nature has endowed us with a huge number and variety of herbs that have amazing medicinal properties, and they are used to prepare herbal medicines. Several herbs consist of powerful ingredients, which are nothing but chemical compounds occurring in nature, which can be harnessed to correct a lot of physiological imbalances that lead to health complications. The use of these substances can be traced back to 1,000 BC. Over 3000years, an incredibly rich and potent system of medicine has emerged.
Ancient herbal information was gathered, compiled, formulated, tested, and handed down from generation to generation. Today, practitioners of Chinese medicine continue to prescribe herbal formulas because they are a powerful therapeutic method.
A practitioner who makes use of herbs is familiar with most of the 1,800 herbs in the Chinese pharmacopeia qualities, functions, and the different organs, meridians, and disharmonies they address.
Individual herbs are combined in order to enhance their actions and effects upon the body. When combined, a unique, synergistic formula is created. This combination increases the benefits of a particular formula, and minimizes any harmful side effects.
In order to create the most effective formula, the herbs are used in different quantities and for different purposes. This allows the herbalist to create a formula aimed at addressing individual needs.
Formulas come in different forms: tea pills, powdered herbs, capsulated herbs, and liquid extracts, herbal tea, essential oils, or ointments…
Chinese herbal medicine can be used to expedite the healing process, and strengthen, support or tonify the body. These formulas have the capacity to address the underlying root cause of various medical conditions, whether acute or chronic. When prescribed and used correctly, Chinese herbal formulas rarely cause unwarranted side effect.
Is Herbal Medicine Safe?
Chinese herbs are provided in the U.S. as food supplements, not as drugs. Thus, they are not strictly regulated by the FDA except for monitoring the cleanliness of manufacturing facilities (for those materials made in the U.S.; for the imported items, FDA monitors only the listing of ingredients to help ensure no toxic herbs are being used). Random testing of crude herb materials and herb products made in the U.S. indicate that they are free of harmful bacteria and chemical contaminants.
Chinese herbs meet stringent international Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards as set by the US. Government. This is the benchmark for quality consistency, reliability, and safety requirements. Every herb shipment is checked by U.S. Customs. They also have successfully passed random and rigorous battery of tests by the FDA. So, herbs are safety.
Benefits of Herbal Medicine
Natural Healing
Herbal medicine doesn’t obstruct the body’s self-healing abilities in any way. On the contrary, they enhance the biological healing machinery so that the recovery process gets accelerated and the body is able to maintain an ideal internal environment that is crucial for such recovery. A lot of herbs work by stimulating various glands so that appropriate hormones are activated. These hormones carry the distress signal to the relevant parts of the physiology to either induce or inhibit certain biological processes in order for the healing process to take place.
Continued Benefits
A lot of herbal remedies come with special instructions about diet, rest, and exercises that enhance the potency of the herb by preparing the body in such a way that it responds to the treatment in the most effective and desirable way. These dietary and lifestyle changes ultimately help the patient by getting their bodies into a healthy rhythm. When these changes become a habit and are followed even after recovery from the ailment, chances of future occurrences of the same malady are greatly reduced.
Better Immunity
Owing to their tendency of enhancing the body’s natural healing process and correcting bad habits that lead to ill-health, herbs contribute towards strengthening the immune system. This, in turn, fortifies the body’s natural defenses against pathogens that are responsible for primary as well as secondary infection. A stronger immune system and a holistically regulated diet and lifestyle leads to improved metabolism, which in turn leads to better absorption of nutrition from one’s diet.
Cost Effective
One of the main downsides to modern medicine is its cost. It is not uncommon for even generic pharmaceutical drugs to cost hundreds of dollars.
